As a Christian Union, we want to give every Durham student the chance to hear and respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ. One way we do this is by putting a massive effort into one week every year. We publicise like mad, invite guest speakers from across the country, and put on lots of events. This doesn’t mean we sit back for the rest of the year, rather we just put a massive effort into this.
Each year we pick a theme. Talk titles match this, we spend time exploring this theme, and we even wear jumpers that match this! You can read through past Events Weeks below to get a flavour of what we put on.
Everyone has a story. What’s yours?
Stories are what make us human. Faith or no faith, everyone has one. Your cleaner in college has one. The guy sitting next to you in the library has one. And the joke book guy in Market Square – he has one as well. This week is an invitation to explore stories of life and Christianity. To hear stories of lives impacted by faith, to ask questions of the Christian story, and to share your own story too.
It doesn’t matter who you are or what you believe – your story matters.
From 15th – 19th February 2016, Durham Christian Union ran a week of events on the theme of Story, looking at key objections to the Christian story at lunchtimes and hearing about changed lives in the evenings, meeting five fascinating individuals – including an ex-terrorist, a former Hindu priest and a Major General – who shared their story of a life changed by Jesus. Then taking a look at stories in John’s Gospel of lives changed by the same man two thousand years ago. Check out story.diccu.co.uk for more details.
This Is Life
Jesus said: “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
Unconvinced? Disagree? Curious to find out more?
From 6th – 13th February, Durham Christian Union ran a series of talks and events entitled This Is Life, open for anyone to explore the claims of Jesus on some of the biggest issues out there – themes such as truth, hope, love, and life itself. Head on over to thisislife.diccu.co.uk for more details.
Cross examined was a week of events we ran in February 2014 challenging people to examine the evidence behind Christianity. There were daily lunchtime Big Questions, Evening Talks looking at the claims of Jesus, and a series of talks for international students too.
